Οι χελώνες του Αργοστολίου πέφτουν συχνά θύματα... αγκιστριών, θέτοντας σε κίνδυνο την ζωή τους!

Μια από αυτές, χθες εντοπίστηκε από την ομάδα Wildlife Sense, η οποία την έβγαλε από την θάλασσα, ώστε να δεχθεί τις πρώτες βοήθειες από την κτηνίατρο Σπυριδούλα Βαβάση και να της αφαιρεθεί το αγκίστρι.

Το ζήτημα είναι σοβαρό και συνεχίζει να υφίσταται και ας έχει απαγορευτεί το ψάρεμα πάνω στην Γέφυρα του Αργοστολίου .

Yesterday we received a tip while patrolling the Harbour of Argostoli that a sea turtle was in distress in the lagoon. We called our friends from the Argostoli Lagoon Activities to have a look and sure enough, they were able to spot the turtle in need.

Once we swam out and got the extremely weak turtle from the lagoon, we took her to Dr. Spiridoula Vavasi and began multiple resuscitation techniques.

A large hook from a longline fishing vessel was found in her throat, but it appeared to have been there for several months. Unfortunately, she passed and we were all left with heavy hearts. We know we did all we could for her, but it is very upsetting to see another turtle that had its life cut short due to human impacts.

This year has been a record year for stranded turtles.
